Gruen Day

Gruen Day, a collaboration between 99% Invisible and the Bay Area Infrastructure Observatory, was held on July 18, 2015 at the Bayfair Center (a Gruen original!) in San Leandro to celebrate Victor Gruen, the inventor of the modern shopping mall. I worked with organizers Avery Trufelman and Tim Hwang to design and produce two jewelry-grade lapel pins that were gifted to attendees. There’s one of his face smoking a big golden plume, and one for the mallrats, inspired by a misreading of the occasion as a certain Bay Area institution.
