Articles of Interest

I worked with creator and producer Avery Trufelman on a new podcast identity for Season 3 of Articles of Interest, which also marked Avery’s return to Radiotopia producing AOI as a standalone show.

A new look

Article of Interest’s new podcast album artwork centers a monogram of the title letters AOI as geometric shapes, arranged as clothing on the background image of three mannequins. The shapes are designed to be rearranged for different compositions, and to mask different patterns and textures to the themes of future episodes and seasons. The background photograph, by Matty Lynn Barnes, draws a bridge to the show’s previous promotional artwork – the variously posed and dressed mannequins of Season 1, and the moody black-and-white photography of Season 2 – and the yellow color of the shapes was chosen in homage to the show’s origins on 99% Invisible.

Previously, I worked with 99% Invisible on the graphic design for Season 2 of Articles of Interest, a mini-series on luxury also created by producer Avery Trufelman. Inspired by high fashion advertising campaigns, the imagery makes use of minimal typography and photographs by Austin Hobart edited to a grainy monochrome, arranged on fields of white space.
